Public Map was invited to collaborate with Eryri National Park to support youth engagement as part of the development of the Authority’s Local Development Plan (LDP) and Cynllun Eryri, its management plan. The aim was to better understand how young people across Eryri experience, value, and connect with the landscape they live in.
Working closely with the Park, Public Map co-designed an engagement approach that met young people where they already are. This included attending outdoor events in Betws-y-Coed, visiting youth clubs, and mapping sessions within local schools. Led by National Park Officers, we worked in partnership to design accessible, place-based conversations and mapping activities to capture young people’s views on climate, place, and the future of Eryri.
The insights gathered will directly inform Eryri’s Carbon Literacy report and play a key role in shaping the forthcoming Statutory Plans - ensuring that the voices of young people are embedded in decisions about the Park’s future.
